MSDN
Publishing
September 2003
Welcome the MSDN Guidelines for Publishing
Content. Here you will find the resources and
guidelines necessary to submit content to the Microsoft
Developer Network.
The MSDN Publishing team (msdnpubs) publishes product
documentation, software development kit (SDK)
documentation, specifications, resource kits, product
information pages, and technical articles for
developers. All content published on MSDN should be
appropriate to the developer audience and be of
sufficient technical depth and relevance.
Content submitted to MSDN may appear on the MSDN Online
Library, on the quarterly
MSDN Subscriptions Library CD/DVD product, or other
MSDN-related products. It is for this reason that the
MSDN Publishing team has some specific guidelines for
content submissions.
Using This Guide
For a complete outline of the content covered in the
MSDN Guidelines for Publishing Content, please see the
site
map. It may be worthwhile to add the site map to
your Favorites as an easy reference point.
We suggest you begin with the MSDN
Content Submission Requirements for the general
requirements for all content submitted to MSDN, such as
Security
Guidelines. From there you will find links to
guidelines and requirements for preparing and submitting
specific types of content, such as:

Other Publishing Options
If you are an inexperienced writer, an experienced
writer without much time, or if you have a topic of key
strategic value to MSDN customers and would like some
guidance preparing your content, it may be that you
should consider contacting the MSDN Developmental
Editing team (msdncnt).
See Getting
Editorial Help from MSDN if this sounds like the
right option for your circumstances.
The other end of the spectrum is for the veteran
contributor to MSDN. If you are already very familiar
with our guidelines and have submitted content to MSDN
regularly in the past, you may be a candidate for taking
over ownership of your own content as it appears on
MSDN.
See Partner
Publishing if you would like to pursue this option
further.
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about
publishing your content with MSDN. Please feel free to
contact the MSDN Content Submissions alias (msdnsub) with any further
questions or suggestions to make this guide more
helpful.
