There are many different aspects of writing that are important when trying to transmit an idea in a written form. Most of these aspects we develop and learn in the early stage of our lives. Things like grammar and punctuation are key to writing persuasive essays, since having grammar and punctuation flaws make essays hard to read and make a bad impression on the reader. I learned these aspects of writing in high school but continue to improve them throughout my life. However, in a college level writing class there are more aspects of writing that have to be taken into account and perfected in order to write persuasive, analytical essays. Aspects like revising, citing correctly and being able to evaluate a paper after it has been written according to a certain set of guidelines.
Revising papers is a skill that is hard to develop, since a step-wise process is necessary to revise papers correctly. I created a system for revising papers that works for me. I look for transitional sentences between paragraphs first, and make sure that the main ideas in each paragraph are correctly defined. I was able to develop this process by finding out what my usual mistakes are when I write; which I learned to do from looking at the corrections on my papers.
I learned to evaluate my own papers after they are completed according to a certain set of guidelines. This was done by comparing the paper to the outcomes that we were supposed to follow in class. This gave me to opportunity to be trained on how to write following the outcomes that the reader is expecting.
English 131 was a very informative and concise class that trained me to be a better writer in an academic manner. I learned the outcomes which are the key aspects to develop a strong paper I enjoyed this class and it made me grow as a writer and as a communicator of ideas.
In the future, I plan to use all the skills that I mentioned before to make very strong arguments and convice my readers that the ideas that I want to transmit to them are accurate and true. This will be a skill that I will use for all my future classes that require writting assignments.
