The role of Technical Communication has progressed as far as technology itself over the years. Moving beyond writing and editing, which are considered foundations in its realm, Technical Communication has become an intricate part in the goal to incorporate technology that will enhance people's everyday and professional lives. Ranging from software development to web design, technical communicators make use of their mastery of writing, while also using their supplementary knowledge in software design, web design, etc. to help communicate material to any targeted audience. This unique ability serves to bridge a knowledge gap that may exist from one audience to another, so that this newly formed understanding between given audiences will help to expedite design processes and manufacturing. The key characteristic of a technical communicator is versatility. From science to technology, the curriculum that a technical communicator takes during college prepares him/her to enter various types of fields where technical communication is essential. Just as technology spreads out into more and more areas of life, it will become necessary that a sufficient comprehension of this technology be accessible to any interested audience. My portfolio aims to show the broad grasp of technical communication in developing innovative technologies. I will show, through my artifacts and annotations, that technical communicators can play key roles in the technological development process, from creating the technology to analyzing its value with end users. The final result: not only a wide range of useful, creative technologies, but a coherent understanding of these technologies as well.
