Personal

My passion to play the saxophone started back in 5th grade. The girl that I had a crush on played the clarinet. Everyone played recorders in music class but the music teacher let her play her clarinet. I was so jealous (of her and being able to show off). So, the following summer I got a clarinet and took private lessons. School started up again and I found myself in a group of people foreign to me. I looked around to find that she quit! Even though my dreams were ruined, I continued to play because my parents didn't know my motive to learn the clarinet.

Middle school came. My clarinet instructor urged me to learn the tenor sax so I could play in the jazz group. Ever since, I have fallen in love with the tenor saxophone and the music of jazz.

My family was an early adopter of a "Personal Computer." When I was young I accidentally broke the computer. I felt so bad that I tried to fix it myself. About a month later I had DOS and Windows 95 mastered.

Ever since, technology has been the passion of my life. My first job was a full time technician for my k-12 school district, Mead School District No. 354. I did this for two summers. This last summer, I started a company, Jeff Prouty Development. I offer web design and had a blast learning how to deal with clients.

At the University of Washington I plan to pursue my passion in the technology industry while still provoking my jazz ambitions. The University of Washington is a large university where I can have a social life and attend one of the top 10 computer science departments in the United States.
