Welcome
The Student Portfolio is a collection of documents that are compiled during the first year of graduate study in the Nutritional Sciences Program.

The purpose of the Portfolio is the assure that all students achieve competence in the core areas that the faculty have determined to be essential for graduates of the program, and to assue that all students are prepared to advance to a thesis/dissertation research project.

Each student will show in this portfolio that they can:

1. document achievment of the Nutritional Sciences Program's core competencies by describing how each competency was achieved and providing evidence of the level of achievement.

2. demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to organize and synthesize knowledge across the spectrum of nutritional sciences (molecular biology, physiological systems, pathology, epidemiology, policy development).

3. demonstrate skills in writing, presentations, working as part of a team, and planning for success in graduate level research.

Most students should plan to submit the portfolio following their first year of study or upon completion of the five core Nutritional Sciences courses. You will be required to submit an acceptable portfolio before you can register for thesis credits. You MUST submit an acceptable portfolio within two years of matriculation.

This catalyst tool will assist you in the development of your graduate portfolio by providing guidelines and resources.

Prepare and submit a binder including the elements of your Graduate Portfolio. A sample template is included on page 2. Include in your binder a CD that contains all of the files such as the synthesis paper, research paper, PowerPoint presentation, etc.
