Parent communication is vital to the process of building positive relationships with students and their families. During my student teaching experience, I sent home a weekly newsletter informing parents of classroom news and important upcoming dates. In addition, I attached a note to parents to each math assessment I sent home to inform them of their child's progress and encourage them to work with students on math concepts and skills at home. I communicated regularly with parents who volunteered in the classroom reading with students, playing math games, or helping prepare instructional materials. One parent frequently sent notes back to school with her student thanking me for keeping her informed of her child's progress in school and letting me know what she was doing to reinforce skills at home.
