Professional Growth Plan

"Build a career. Plan to be better tomorrow than today, but don't ever plan to be finished."
--Carol Ann Tomlinson
The Professional Growth Plan illustrates my commitment to professional development and ongoing learning as an educator. I attended a series of workshops and meetings on scaffolding literacy instruction led by our district literacy coach during my student teaching experience. From these workshops I learned a wealth of information about "best practices" in literacy, how to use assessment of student work to plan differentiated instruction, and instructional techniques such as interactive writing and ways to help readers develop fluency. In addition to my professional growth plan for further developing my understanding of effective teaching practices in mathematics, I intend to seek out resources in brain research and its implications for teaching and learning in the elementary classroom. Understanding how the brain works and using brain-based research is a useful perspective with which to understand how students can learn best in the classroom.
